I'm an animal lover, wine drinker, and murder mystery enthusiast living with my partner, son, and 3 cats in the beautiful bay area of California. I've lived a lot of places but I grew up in the Midwest in Missouri. My dad is a biology professor and I was lucky enough to tag along on many of his field trips as a kid, which is where I first learned to love and appreciate nature (and not be scared of bugs -- you name it, I've been bitten by it). I toyed with the idea of becoming a biologist in college, but the academic life just isn't for me. I've always been a creative, hands-on person who is happiest solving a problem at my sewing machine, pattern table, or in my sketchbook. I like to think that with Vesta as an environmentally conscious brand, I've finally merged my two passions of design and nature.
My vision for Vesta began in 2009 while I was attending Parsons in NYC. It was the first time I had really thought about the impact of the fashion industry and, after learning about fabrics, the first time I stopped and thought, "As a longtime vegetarian, should I really be using leather, wool, silk, and other animal-derived materials?" Soon I had given up buying clothing and shoes made from animal products, and instead searched for cruelty-free items that were also ethically-made, high quality, affordable, and fit my minimalist aesthetic. This constant, frustrating search made me realize there was a big hole in the market, and a vision for a clothing brand that satisfied all of these "pain points" emerged.
Today I'm proud to say Vesta is a brand built on transparency, community, and living in harmony with the earth and all living things. Our #1 priority is and always will be environmental and social responsibility, which should be the rule and not the exception. We're based in the Bay Area of California and currently sell online only, but I hope to meet you in person someday soon. I am so excited you're on this journey with me + Vesta Studio!
